Talk Like a Pirate Day Activities

Baby wearing pirate hat - Talk Like a Pirate Day Activities
Talk Like a Pirate Day is September 19th!

It’s a good day for kids to get silly and act like pirates. Arrr!

Wondering what to do to celebrate the occasion?

Try the Talk Like a Pirate Day activities listed below.

They’ll help make this fun holiday a memorable one for everyone.

Talk Like a Pirate Day Activities

Learn some pirate language.
Kids can learn to talk like a pirate using this handy vocabulary list.

Discover your pirate name.
Find out what your pirate name is using cards numbered 1 – 10 and this activity.

Make pirate hats.
Let everyone dress for the part by making these easy pirate hats out of newspaper.

Go on a treasure hunt.
Create a pirate treasure map that leads to some goodies like chocolate coins. Or, let the kids make their own treasure maps.

Note in a bottle.
Give everyone a piece of paper and a plastic bottle. Have each person write a note or draw a picture and put it in his own bottle. Then mix up the bottles and pass them out.

Polly Wants a…Game
Play the Polly Wants a… Game. Every body sits in a circle. The first player begins by saying “Polly Wants a…” and names a food. The next player says “Polly Wants a…” and names what the first player said and then adds another food. Play continues this way around the circle. Each player must remember all of the foods previously said in order. If a player makes a mistake, he is out. Play continues until only one player is left.

Eat like a pirate.
Make pirate-themed food for everyone to eat. Happy Little Homemaker has some suggestions here. Or you can make Treasure Map Pizza, Pirate Cupcakes, or Sweet and Salty Fruit Bowls.

Make a pirate flag.
Pass out plain paper and let each person design his own Jolly Roger.

Make a treasure chest.
Kids can decorate cardboard boxes to make their own treasure chests.

Write like a pirate.
Kids can write like a pirate using some of the silly prompts in our Pirate Pranks Writing Prompts book. It has 20 fun prompts as well as pirate-themed journal pages and a handy word list. See a preview of it here.

Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!
